HISTORY
The cultivation of peaches can be traced back to ancient China (circa 2000 B.C.) where in Chinese mythology the peach symbolizes “immortality”. Over time, the fruit spread westward through the Silk Road, reaching Persia (Iran) and Greece (300 BC). Furthermore, there is a belief that “Alexander the Great” and his troops brought the peach from Persia to Greece.
Τhe first systematic cultivation of peach in modern Greece is recorded in the northern Greece at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, it is estimated that the fertile flatlands of Northern Greece accommodate approximately 170 million m² of the peach cultivation industry.
The unique landscape of blossoming peach trees, turns the valley into a dazzling pink carpet of flowers during spring. Τhe astonishing natural beauty attracted the attention of the National Geographic network, which in 2021, filmed a documentary “Europe from Above”, in the area, capturing the impressive scenery and one of the highest quality agricultural products in Europe.
